Tourism industry earns Rs.63 Bn income in March

Showing considerable growth, the tourism industry has managed to earn an income of US$ 198 million (Rs.63,300 million) in the month of March.

According to a latest report issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka’s income from tourism in March 2022 was US$ 161 million, which is a growth of 22.8 percent in March this year.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka reports that 106,500 foreign tourists visited Sri Lanka in March 2022 showing a growth of 17.8 percent and 125,495 tourists came to the country in March this year. The highest number of arrivals have been reported from countries like Russia, India, United Kingdom, Germany and France.

Continuing the upward trend in tourist arrivals, more than 100,000 foreign tourists have come to Sri Lanka in the month of April alone, and according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, 441,177 foreign tourists have come to Sri Lanka in the first 4 months of this year.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority states that it is special that more than 100,000 tourists have come every month.
