Kalutara South Police say they found the car in which the 16-year-old schoolgirl whose body was found lying on the road after allegedly falling from the fifth floor of a lodge in Kalutara, was brought to the hotel.
The car was found hidden in a house of a friend of the main suspect in Palathota, Kalutara.
The nude body of the teenage girl was found near the railway line behind the hotel on the main street of Galle Road in the Kalutara South Police Division on Saturday evening.
A Police officer said that a young man and a young woman, who are said to have gone to the lodge with the deceased student and the main suspect, were remanded until May 15 by the Courts.
The person who is said to be a friend of the main suspect who was driving the car was also arrested by the Police, a Police officer said.
The other couple who stayed in the hotel for almost an hour left the hotel and then the main suspect was heard telling the other young man “the schoolgirl fell down, we are all going to be in trouble, hide the body”.
Accordingly, the Police said that the two of them walked about 600 metres to the place where the girl’s body was lying, dragged the body towards the railway line and then walked towards Kalutara.
The Police said that the post-mortem examination of the student was conducted at the Kalutara Nagoda General Hospital and the body parts and blood samples were sent to the Government Analyst and an open verdict was given.
It is also said that the girl’s body has teeth marks in several places.
It has been revealed in Police investigations that the twenty-nine-year-old man (main suspect) who came to the lodge with the deceased student was married and was a playboy.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Duminda Rajapaksa said that two Police teams have been deployed to arrest the main suspect.
An investigating officer said that the two couples arrived at the Kalutara Lodge at around 6.20 p.m. on Saturday in the main suspect’s car and were given two rooms.
A statement of a hotel employee states that all four had consumed alcohol in one of the rooms.
The young man with the other girl had reportedly left the hotel in a hurry. Later, the main suspect too had left the hotel and the body was found later. The main suspect has fled the area and the Police are searching for him.
It is said that eye witnesses have heard the main suspect telling his friend that the girl had jumped and her body should be removed before anyone sees her.
Also a hotel employee and a woman who was having food at the hotel are said to have seeing the main suspect dragging the body of the girl towards the railway line. Meanwhile, Courts imposed a foreign travel ban on the main suspect.
The Police have uncovered information that the main suspect involved in the incident is a vehicle seizer.
This suspect is married to a woman from Galle and when the Police questioned her, she said that her husband has women everywhere.
Police said that it is confirmed from the statements of the driver that the suspect who fled from the lodge after the young woman fell, went to the Bandaragama Galanigama Southern Expressway entrance and left the car there.
