Over 350 doctors of Government hospitals are reported to have left the country from August last year till to date for employment abroad without informing the Health Ministry.
Director, Health Services of the Health Ministry Dr. Priyantha Attapattu said that according to the latest surveys of the Health Ministry, nearly 2,837 specialist doctors and 23,000 doctors of other categories are now needed for service in Government hospitals countrywide.
Kurunegala DMO Dr. S.M.A. Priyadarsha told the media on Friday that nearly 50 specialist doctors and 250 other doctors in the Government sector had left the country without informing the authorities and they are considered to have vacated their posts. Of them, nearly 50 doctors have already been blacklisted, he added.
