New Governors for five Provinces

The resignation of Governors following a President’s resignation is similar to dissolving the Cabinet following a Prime Minister’s resignation, a senior spokesperson for the President’s Office said. After President Ranil Wickremesinghe took office, the Governors did not resign according to tradition and the President waited for some time for them to resign, the spokesman said.

The President’s Office has informed the Governors of several Provinces to resign, including the North, East, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North Western Provinces.

Following these resignations, new Governors will be appointed after the President returns to the country.
