The State Vesak Festival was held at the Kebellawa Rathanasiri Pirivena in Chilaw under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on Thursday.
Issuance of new postage stamps, presentation of Sannaspatras declaring six temples as Sacred Areas were among the key programmes that were held on Thursday.
A distribution of mango saplings among the devotees who observed Sil at the temple also took place at the temple premises.
A programme to felicitate parents, who gave their children to the Buddha Sasana also took place at the temple premises on the sidelines of the State Vesak Festival.
Members of the Maha Sangha, Buddhasasana and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake, Ministers and Members of the Diplomatic Corps participated.
