PET scans performed at Apeksha Hospital without interruption

6 May, 2023

Director of the Apeksha Hospital Maharagama Dr. Aruna Jayasekera yesterday said the scanning of patients through PET scanner continues without interruption eventhough the scanning process was hampered due to the delay in receiving radio isotope last Thursday.

He said that this isotope material has a half life. It starts losing its strength from the moment it is manufactured. Therefore, it has a shorter lifetime and they are reckoned with in minutes from the time of being manufactured.

Dr. Jayasekera said that the isotope quantities ordered from India were not delivered on time due to flight delay and this has caused a limit to the number of scans performed by the Hospital .

However, Dr.Jayasekera said that this situation has been rectified now and 10 Pet scans were performed as usual.

He said that the Hospital had to limit the number of scans performed per day to 07 as the hospital did not receive isotope on time on Thursday.
