Sri Lanka’s World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai champion Mohamed Afdhal will take a step closer to gain international recognition when he takes on Australian champion Joe Greenwood in a title fight on May 6.

The rising kick boxing star from Iron Martial Arts Association Sri Lanka will feature in a five-round 68kg catch weight contest in the RISE International Championship in Brisbane, Australia.

The 22-year-old fighter from Mawanella has been an exponent of Muay Thai from the age of six being trained by legendary coach MHM Fahid.

Afdhal has an impressive career record of seven wins including one knock-out as against four losses in his 11-fight professional career.

“He has been training hard for the past one year to achieve his goal of qualifying to fight in the WBC World Championship.

“His ultimate dream is to compete in the One Championship. I’m confident he will overcome the Australian fighter and take a step closer to achieve his target,” said Fahid who won’t be in his corner in Australia. An experienced coach based in Australia, Isham ibnu Imran, will be standing in for Fahid.

A black belt, Afdhal represented Sri Lanka in the IFMA World Championship 2021 in Thailand and was a title winner at the 2022 WBC Championship organised by World Boxing Council Sri Lanka.
