
The Attorney General’s Department said that the case to recover compensation for the damage caused by the X-Press Pearl ship, which caught fire and sank in Sri Lankan waters, will be filed against the relevant company in the Singapore courts today (24).
The Civil Litigation Department of the Attorney General’s Department is handling this case and according to the expert report, the said department is filing a lawsuit to recover the relevant compensation.
The department also mentioned that two cases have been filed before the Colombo High Court against the Sri Lankan captain and the two representative companies for the damage caused by the ship.
A team of 40 experts was appointed by Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to assess the damage from the ship and the related report was forwarded to the Minister in the middle of January this year. The Justice Minister forwarded the expert report to the Attorney General’s Department for related legal matters
