According to the Kaluthara South Police, a young couple was run over by a truck driver while buying fish from a roadside fish vendor resulting in the death of the young girl.
The victim is a 23-year-old girl named Imasha Karunathilake from Vendesi Watta area in Kalutara.
Accident has happened when the couple was riding in a motorcycle last night (23 April) and stopped to buy fish near the Galashena junction, where a lorry driver traveling in the same direction has collided with them.
The two have been admitted to the Kalutara Teaching Hospital with serious injuries but the young woman has succumbed to her injuries while the young man’s condition remains dire.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested and will be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate Court.
