One of the main suspects wanted in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks was allowed to be brought back to the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) for further questioning by Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe based on the reports given by the Australian Government.
The Australian Government had sent a report in relation to the Easter Sunday attacks based on the statements given by a member of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group who was arrested in Australia.
Accordingly, the TID informed the Court that the suspect who is presently held at the Boosa High Security Prison will be brought back to the TID for questioning regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.
The TID filing a motion before the Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court cited that the suspect Mohammed Ibrahim Saddique Abdulla has had contacts with the foreign terrorist organizations and sought Court permission to question him at the TID for three days.
Investigators told Court that he has been identified as a close associate of the mastermind of the Easter Sunday attacks Zaharan. He is among the 24 suspects who have been indicted before the Colombo High Court in relation to the Easter Sunday attacks.
A case is being heard before the Colombo High Court against eight suspects including him on the charge of supplying weapons to carry out the Easter Sunday attacks. It has been revealed that the suspect has gone to the Maldives and had received training from Al Qaeda before carrying out the attacks on Easter Sunday.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe after taking into consideration the submissions made by the TID ordered the Prisons Superintendent to make necessary arrangements to detain the suspect at the TID from April 24–28.
