The Principals of several major National Schools in Colombo have complained to President Ranil Wickremesinghe that there is an injustice of the teacher transfers.
They pointed out that despite the disbanding of the Teacher Transfer Board, the teacher transfer programme continues in the same manner. Last month, President Ranil Wickremesinghe disbanded the Teacher Transfer Board with immediate effect aiming to streamline teacher transfers.
Therefore, the principals of several major National Schools in Colombo have made a written request to President Ranil Wickremesinghe to temporarily stop teacher transfers until proper scientific action is taken regarding teacher transfers.
According to the complaint made by the National School Principals, the Teacher Transfer Board was abolished and teacher transfers were cancelled due to the implementation of teacher transfers as required by the teachers’ unions, but the previous process is still going on.
The principals have also informed that there is an injustice in these teacher transfers since such teacher transfers are not carried out under any acceptable criteria.
The complaint made by the principals to the President shows that the principals of many main schools have requested the Education Ministry to postpone the transfer of teachers considering the fact that the new students have been enrolled to Grade One and the inability to conduct the G.E.C. Ordinary Level Exam yet.National School Principals have stated these facts in a letter addressed to President Wickremesinghe seeking his consent.
