Certain groups want to de-stabilise country again - Minister

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday said that those who are trying to take the country into anarchy are against the Anti-Terrorism Bill and common   masses are not against it. “What the people of the country need at this time is to have solutions to the burning problems in the country. They will never comment against this Anti-Terrorism Bill. Certain groups want to agitate, fight in the streets and create anarchy and de-stabilise the country.

He was of the view that the majority of the people want to ensure that peace and harmony of the country is maintained without allowing terrorism to emerge in the country.

Amaraweera expressed these views while participating in a ceremony to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year organized by the Agriculture Ministry of held at the Ape Gama premises yesterday.

“We know the situation in the country before. Since 2018, our people have not been able to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year happily. Last year too, people were in oil and gas queues,”he said.

He stressed the importance of taking every possible steps to prevent the country from falling into anarchy.
