
Lanka Sathosa has reduced the prices of ten essential consumer items from Friday, March 24. It was done to provide relief to consumers who face economic hardships.
The price of a kilogram of dried chillies was reduced by Rs.120 and a kilogram of garlic and sprats by Rs. 25. A spokesman for Lanka Sathosa said that a kilogram of chickpeas was reduced by Rs.15, a kilogram of local Samba rice by Rs. 11 and a 425 gramme tin of canned fish by Rs.10.
A kilogram of big onions and local potatoes was reduced by Rs.10 and a kilogram of white sugar and white peas was also reduced by Rs. 7.
With this price revision, a kilogram of dried chillies is Rs.1,380, local Samba rice - Rs. 199 and a kilogram of white sugar - Rs. 210.
A kilogram of big onions is Rs. 119 and a kilo of sprats is now Rs.1,100. A kilogram of chickpeas is Rs. 555. The price of a kilogram of local potatoes has dropped to Rs. 270 and a 425 gramme tin of canned fish is now Rs. 520.
