The appreciation of the Rupee in relation to the US Dollar has resulted in a substantial reduction in the prices of return air tickets purchased using Rupees, several travel agents based in Colombo said.
They said there has been a minimum five percent reduction in the economy class fares, which could make high demand sectors such as Colombo-London and Colombo-Melbourne more affordable to travellers, including students.
They expect a further reduction in air ticket prices out of Colombo if the Rupee continues to appreciate.
More airlines have added flights to Colombo to cope with the high demand from tourists and expatriates.
