SLS mark on local canned fish, a must

5 March, 2023

It is mandatory to display the SLS mark on local canned fish pursuant to the regulations of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), a media release from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) stated.

The release stated that it has received reports that local canned fish being put up for sale is without the SLS mark. Members of the public have been called upon to file complaints with the CAA, if there are any complaints in this regard.

The release added that the SLSI follows an authorised procedure when issuing the SLS mark for any locally-manufactured product. It is mandatory that these products and the manufacturing process be in line with the standard parameters.

The press release stated that it is the responsibility of the CAA to take action against the uncertified local canned fish sold in the market as the SLSI ensures the quality of the local canned fish under various brand names.

The SLSI has issued the SLS certificate to 33 canned fish brands owned by 12 manufacturing firms.
