C. W. Mackie PLC will export Scan jumbo peanuts to Europe for the first time. The company will allocate Rs. 300 million to expand its factory for this purpose.
“We have also launched a mega plantation drive to increase Peanut cultivation from around 500 areas to 2,000 by end 2024,” said Executive Director of C.W. Mackie PLC Group of Company, Mangala Perera in Colombo on Thursday at the launch of their snacks range that includes Cassava Chips, Fried Dhal, Buddy Peanuts, and Mixtures under its widely popular food and beverage brand, Scan.
“We will be coming to a forward buying agreement with several farmers in North East as well as in the Anuradhapura area to purchase Pea nut for local use as well as for exporters.”
This scheme will benefit the local economy and by supporting local farmers and other producers we will be encouraging sustainable agriculture, and facilitates tracking the supply chain back to the point of origin to evaluate ecological practices.”
