Young entrepreneurs to get more assistance for start-ups - President’s Advisor

2 March, 2023

President Ranil Wickremesinghe is ushering in a change by giving more investment opportunities for the youth, who initiate start-ups and foreign entrepreneurs, President’s Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor on National Security Sagala Rathnayake said.

He was speaking at a Youth Convention organized by the UNP Youth Wing at the Sirikotha

UNP headquarters on Tuesday. “The President is working on setting up the necessary framework for young entrepreneurs to find opportunities in the world, to promote our exports and thereby earn more foreign exchange. The young generation needs to be up to date on technology and other aspects to grasp those opportunities. Some jobs will become outdated, and more modern employment opportunities will be created in the country. The youth should take up this challenge,” he told the conference.

He said university courses should be updated to cater to the modern needs, so that graduates, who pass out from universities, can opt for private sector jobs with better pay rather than waiting for a government job.

He said that the country would receive more financial support from the multilateral organizations, including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, after the agreement with the IMF is sealed.
