At least 25 people were reported injured after a bus carrying pilgrims toppled down a precipice on the Nelligala–Muruththettuwa road in the Kandy district yesterday. About 48 people had been in the bus which had travelled from Moratuwa to the Nelligala temple.
Those injured were rushed to the Kandy and Peradeniya hospitals for treatment.
This is the fourth accident that had taken place this month.
Two people died and 26 others were injured last Sunday, February 19 when their bus plunged down a 100-foot deep precipice in Hulan-Wanguwa, Hatton, along the Norton Bridge–Diyagala road while they were returning from a pilgrimage to Adam’s Peak.
