My country

26 February, 2023

Sri Lanka is my motherland. It is a small island. It is known as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. Sri Lanka has an agricultural economy.

Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is the capital of Sri Lanka. The country’s national bird is the jungle fowl and the national flower is the blue water lilly. Sri Lanka’s national animal is the giant squirrel and the national tree is the ironwood (Na) tree. Volleyball is the national sport.

Sri Lanka has multi-cultural people living in peace. Buddhists are the majority religious group but there are also Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

My country was ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch and British in the past.

Sri Lanka is very beautiful. There are many rivers, waterfalls, ponds, botanical gardens and sanctuaries which are admired by tourists.

The island is famous for its wild life. Tuskers, deer, bears, leopards, peacocks and many other wild animals add beauty to my country.

I am proud to say that I’m a Sri Lankan. I love my country very much.
