Butterflies are insects which have large, brightly multi-coloured and patterned wings. They have a four stage life cycle. The egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. There are 24,000 varieties of butterflies and 247 categories are found in Sri Lanka. Twenty-two of them are endemic to The island.
They have several body parts that include antenna, head, forewings, hindwings, thorax, abdomen, legs and eyes.
