Sanath Jayasuriya wasted no time in slamming the bowlers anywhere he wanted during his heydays with the bat, but now finds himself playing the waiting game as Sri Lanka is yet to decide on a new set of team Selectors and the tour party that will embark to New Zealand for a Test and white ball series starting on March 9.

Jayasuriya is now a member of the Selection Committee of the decisive policy making National Sports Council (NSC) that is now headed by his former team captain Arjuna Ranatunga.

The NSC has authority over the Selection Committees of all sports associations and is still in the process of approving the names of cricket selectors submitted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) which has come under fire after the recent T20 World Cup debacle in Australia.

“We have asked (SLC) for more names as cricket selectors and are still waiting to finalise the new set of Selectors. At this moment I cannot say who will be in the new (selection) committee,” said Jayasuriya.

“As far as I know the (Sri Lanka) squad to New Zealand has not been finalized or if a squad selected has been done by only the chairman of selectors or everyone in the committee. I like to have a team that can compete or win and also see some new faces. I am happy to say that no one interferes with our task and we work (in the NSC) independently,” said Jayasuriya.
