Free textbooks will be distributed to students of Government schools and Pirivenas by March 27.
Students from Grade 6 to 11 will receive the free textbooks and Rs.16 billion has been allocated for the purpose, Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha told the Sunday Observer.
The Minister said nearly 350 categories of books in Sinhala, Tamil and English will be distributed among the students. The State Printing Corporation printed about 45 percent of the books using the Indian credit line while the private sector printed 55 percent.
Around 13,700 primary teachers of Government schools are undergoing training on “Oral Communication skills of the English Language” to teach to Grade One students who will be admitted to schools this year, the Minister added.
