Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has assured that no power cuts will be enforced from today (16 February) onwards due to the implementation of the new tariffs on electricity.
Minister Kanchana made these statements at a special press conference on the tariff revisions, and stated that the President Ranil Wickremesinghe has advised him to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply with the imposition of the new tariffs.
This decision was announced after the CEB proposal to announce tariffs by 66% was approved by the PUCSL Members yesterday (15 February). It is said that this tariff increase is expected to generate an additional estimated revenue of around LKR 287 billion.
