
Cabinet Spokesman and Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that the remittances from workers employed abroad in January this year has increased by 68.8 percent compared to January, last year.
He said that remittances have increased close to US$ 500 million and it is a very positive aspect.
The minister was speaking at the press conference to announce Cabinet decisions held yesterday (14) at the Government Information Department. The minister further said that the minister in charge of foreign employment had mentioned that if it is possible to send more skilled workers abroad, more than US$ 7 billion dollars as remittances can be obtained by the end of this year.
