Rs. 30 million has been allocated as compensation for livestock that died due to the cold weather conditions which caused by the ‘Cyclone Mandous’ in December (2022), in North and East. It was reported that more than 1000 animals died due to the harsh weather conditions.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera advised officials of the Ministry that compensation must be paid to farmers, following which steps were provide the funds to the people affected by the perished livestock.
Money was allocated in the following manner,
• Rs. 18.53 million have been allocated to the Northern Province,
• Rs. 11.9 million to the Eastern Province.
