Polwattage appointed Additional Railway GM

V.S. Polwattage has been appointed as the Additional Railway General Manager (Operations) of the Sri Lanka Railway Department.

He was previously Deputy General Manager (Commercial), Railways. Polwattage received his primary education at Borella Susamayawardana College before entering Ananda College, Colombo.

He joined the railway service on September 9, 1985 as an Apprentice Train Controller after completing his education.

He was promoted to that grade’s special class, appointed as an Assistant Transport Superintendent to the department’s executive grade, and held various positions in both the Commerce and Transport Sub-Departments, as well as the Head of the Commerce Sub-Department.

During his 37 years of service, he has led many trade unions in his professional life and currently holds the chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Railway Executive Officers Association.

He was a cricket umpire of the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute and is currently the Vice President of the Professional Cricket Umpires Association, Public Service Netball Association and the Sri Lanka Railway Sports Club. - IW
