A suspect who allegedly acted as a broker in a kidney racket was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while he was trying to flee to Dubai, the Police Media Spokesman’s Office said.
The suspect has been identified as a 32-year-old resident from Colombo 12.
The suspect had defrauded people from low-income families by impersonating as a minor employee at a private hospital in Borella, while functioning as broker in a kidney smuggling racket, police investigations have revealed.
A flight ban was imposed by the court against the suspect on January 17, 2023 and he was arrested on Thursday (9) at around 8.30 pm while trying to board an Emirates flight to Dubai.
The suspect was produced before the Colombo Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court on Friday (10), where he was ordered to be remanded until February 14.
