Sigiriya

Sigiriya or Sinhagiriya is one of the most famous historical and ancient places in Sri Lanka. It was built by King Kashyapa. The entrance to Sigiriya is trough the paws of a lion statue.

This rock fortress is high above sea level. It is a famous place among tourists because it is very beautiful. Sigriya has a great water technology. The beautiful frescoes at Sigiriya are called Sigiri apsaraviyo in Sinhala and they are 1,500 years old.

Some people believed they are Goddesses. The Sigiri Kurutu Gee are verses scratched on a shiny wall and is famous worldwide. Sigiriya is sometimes called the eighth wonder of the world.

This rock fortress is a marvellous creation of our ancestors. It is our duty to protect Sigiriya for future generations.
