Nalanda College which sports a reputation for producing a host of Sri Lanka cricketers including the country’s first captain Bandula Warnapura, entered a new phase by commissioning a high performance centre at the school on Thursday in the presence of several distinguished invitees.

Former Sri Lanka batsman and coach Jayantha Seneviratne, in whose honour the Centre is named, ceremonially commissioned the facility that will be managed and maintained by the Old Nalandians Sports Club.

The project was funded by the old boys of Nalanda domiciled in the United States of America and provides sportsmen of the school with the latest technology for advancement while giving its users the opportunity to march into the current world of high-tech sports development.

Seneviratne, himself a distinguished old boy, was the backbone of coaching at Nalanda for some 20 years and was responsible for moulding the careers of elite Sri Lanka players Mahela Jayawardena and Kumara Dharmasena besides a host of others who went on to wear the National cap. Asanka Gurusinha and Roshan Mahanama also passed through the portals of Nalanda College and wore the Sri Lanka cap with pride.

By moving into the world of innovative and state of the art sports development, Nalanda College through the Jayantha Seneviratne Sports Strategy Development Centre hopes that the project will be a giant stepping stone for all sportsmen of the school to conquer the local and international arena better and stronger in the best way possible.
