There will be no change of Government in the country due to local council elections. Therefore, in the current economic crisis, the funds should be used for the benefit of the people, said Water Supply Minister Jeevan Thondaman.
A special discussion between the general secretaries of all political parties and independent groups contesting the local council elections and the members of the Election Commission was held at the Election Commission earlier this week. During the meeting, many issues were discussed including funding for the election and campaign.
After the meeting, Minister Jeevan Thondaman briefed the media.
“By spending millions of rupees and holding local council elections, the Government will not change. The economic crisis will not be resolved. I have already announced my position in this regard.
In the current situation, the people of the country have no idea about the elections. Next, many people have doubts about food. There is a problem with sending children to school.
Therefore, people’s interests should be given priority now.
I am not against elections. However, there must be a suitable environment to conduct the election in a fair and just manner.” he said.
