United National Party (UNP) sources said that they are receiving many requests to contest the Local Government (LG) elections under a new alliance and a common symbol.
The party’s current stance is to negotiate with parties supporting the Government, independent groups and parties outside the Government on contesting the elections together.
The UNP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) held several discussions recently regarding a new alliance and a common symbol.
Although the parties did not arrive at a final decision, the talks yielded positive responses, a party official said.
