The All Ceylon Bakery Owners Association has reduced the price of bread by Rs 10 from midnight yesterday.
The Association’s Chairman N.K Jayawardena told the Sunday Observer that they reduced the price of bread by Rs 10 after the cost of flour dropped by Rs 20 per kilogram. He said consumers could buy a 450-gram loaf of bread at Rs 170 from today. The average price of bread had increased from Rs 80 in 2021 to Rs 170 in 2022. The Bakery Owners said they were compelled to increase the prices because they could not absorb the extra cost of flour. These are high-cost increases. But, we had no choice but to increase the price of bread due to the increased flour prices. CW
