Annual prize-giving and pre-school Convocation of York International School

The annual prize-giving and pre-school Convocation of York International School was held recently.

The chief guest was Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne from the University of Colombo, Chairman of York International Group, Rohan T. Perera, Group Director, Roshane Perera, Group CEO, Rohan Perera together with Mrs. Surandhi Mallawarachchi, Principal, York International Sapugaskanda, Mrs. Sarojini Guruge, Principal York International Wattala, Mrs. Wathsala Senanayake former Principal of York International Kadawatha together with the incumbent Principal Mrs. Kanchana Dassnayake graced the event.

The prize winners of the concluded 2021/22 academic year extending from Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary received their prize awards together with 54 preschoolers who were conferred with their Kindergarten certification at the ceremony.

The Principal in her address emphasized her commitment to provide and deliver quality education with a view to equipping the students with the capability to decipher and construe challenges inclusive of the ability to benefit from accessible opportunities applying the knowledge acquired in their day to day life.

She said it was important to continuously be abreast of the improvements and developments at international as well as national level and the need for educationists to adjust their curricula accordingly. She said that learning outcomes of the students are should adjusted and changed consistently to meet the ever-changing skill profiles demanded by the corporate sector as well as society.

As such, a hands-on approach over viewing the progression is undeniably the need of the hour. This has to be compounded by a well-balanced curriculum together with the co-curricular and extracurricular activities underpinned by technology, updated learning methodology, resource persons, as well as the all-important engagement in physical re-creative sports activity. This has certainly become the very foundation of progressive academic activity maintained at York International Kadawatha.

The 360-degree overall studentship with an emphasis on religious, cultural and ethnic harmony compounding the development of a well-adjusted and compassed personality is undeniably the practised inscription of all students at York International, Kadawatha.
