New OMI Superior General

20 November, 2022

Reverend Father Luis Ignacio Rois Alonso OMI has been elected as the 14th Superior General of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI). His brother oblates fondly call him Fr. Chicho. The 58-year-old-Spanish-born-oblate priest served as the Oblate General Councillor in Europe from 2014 until 2016.

He said that his new mission is one of ‘animation’. He is hopeful that he will have to act as a missionary of hope along with his new leadership team which has been elected for a term of six years.

Issuing a message, he called upon the oblates to be faithful to the inspiration of St Eugene De Mazenod. At the time of his new appointment, he was serving in the oblate mission on the Northeastern coast of the African continent (Sahara Desert).

Fr. Chicho will have a set of new councillors, among them is Fr. Eugene Benedict OMI, the incumbent Provincial from the Province of Jaffna who has been elected as the General Councillor for Asia –Oceania.
