A Sri Lankan table tennis player Sanaya Buddhadasa has won a place in the Australian youth team to play in the World Youth Table Tennis Championship scheduled to be held in Tunisia from December 4 to 11.

She will represent Australia in the Under-19 singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the meet in Tunisia.

“When I came to Australia I wanted to become a national champion here and my dream is to represent Australia in the Olympics. I am happy to be the number one ranked player in the Under-17 and 19 categories at the moment,” said Sanaya.

Sanaya represented Sri Lanka while she was studying at Visakha Vidyalaya in the Under-15 category at the age of 12 before moving over to Australia for higher studies.

She is currently the number one ranked player in the Under-17 and 19 age groups in Australia and ninth in the Open category and is presently studying at the Marybinong High School in Melbourne.

Table tennis followers in Sri Lanka say they are happy for Sanaya as she will not be a victim of corruption and politics in her adopted country.
