The eight member Sri Lankan youth athletic team that participated in the fourth Asian Youth Athletic Championships (U-18) held in the State of Kuwait, returned to the island on Tuesday (18).
Five out of the eight athletes who participated in this championship were able to win three silver medals and two bronze medals. They were awarded a rousing welcome at the Airport.
The medals were won by the following.
1. Kasuni Wickremasinghe - Women’s 800m - 2:15:42 minutes - Silver Medal
2. Deneth Anuhas - Men’s High Jump - 2.01m - Silver Medal
3. Lesadu Arthavidu - Men’s High Jump - 1.97m - Bronze Medal
4. Praveen Jayathilake - Men’s 400m - 48.56 seconds - Silver Medal
5. Avishka Theminda - Men’s 400m - 48.70 seconds - Bronze Medal
Meanwhile, Bronze Medallist at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Yupun Abeykoon also returned home from Italy on Tuesday.
He was received at the BIA by officials from SLA and the Ministry of Sports.
