England’s left arm fast bowler Sam Curran made history by becoming the first bowler in the team to take a five-wicket haul in the T20 Cricket World Cup when he achieved the feat against Afghanistan in their Group 1 match at the Perth Cricket Ground yesterday.
Curren missed a possible hat-trick but took three wickets in four balls as he triggered a collapse that resulted in Afghanistan crashing to a score of 112 after they were well placed at 91 for 4 at one stage of the innings.
Overall it was a clinical performance by England who are considered favourites to win the trophy as they held on to some brilliant catches in the outfield to keep the Afghanistan batting line-up in check after they won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Curran finished with figures of 5 for 10 from 3.4 overs.
England went after the 112 target not taking any risks in their first match of the Super 12 stage. They lost five wickets making 113 in 18.1 overs to win.
