Commuters appeal to extend bus route 176 to Mattakkuliya

23 October, 2022

Bus commuters appeal to the authorities concerned to extend the 176 bus plying between Karagampitiya and Hettiyawatte to Mattakkuliya without delay.

This appeal comes following the termination of the 155 bus route, Mattakkuliya-Ratmalana which was stopped abruptly due to unknown reasons.

The 155 bus route which served a large number of commuters and students travelling to schools in Kotahena, Maradana, Town Hall and the Galle Road for over 60 years ceased operations for quaint reasons.

Commuters in Mattakkuliya and its environs said that they are today compelled to take connecting  buses  to their destinations incurring additional costs, apart from the sheer waste of time. As a result of the termination of the 155 bus route, commuters have no direct bus to Kotahena, Armour Street, Maradana and beyond. Commuters said they were greatly inconvenienced as a result of this move by both the CTB and private bus operators adding that they were at a loss to understand as to why this extremely popular service was abandoned.

A short run even from Mattakkuliya to the Town Hall would be most welcome in these trying times, they said.
