Ride For Ceylon wins UK Tribunal case

16 October, 2022

Friends of Manipay Hospital, and their fundraising branch Ride4Ceylon, are delighted to confirm that The Intellectual Property Office in the U.K. has ruled comprehensively in their favour.

A former committee member, Mr Michael Jeyasegaran Arnold, attempted to claim the full rights to the R4C trademark. After registering and claiming ownership of the logo, the individual set out to utilise the trademark for personal advancement.

However, following a lengthy and thorough due process by the IPO, the claim by the said individual has been invalidated on all grounds. The aforementioned party has been ordered to pay FoMH compensation for legal costs.

This proves to be a significant victory for FoMH and R4C, who can now re focus their stellar efforts into raising funds for the maintenance and renovation of Green Memorial Hospital.

Heartbroken by the dilapidated state of the once renowned GMH, Prof Jayantha Arnold and his brother Anandan set about creating a charity to raise funds to resurrect this former hospital.

Initially supported by their families, the charity has now expanded to an annual charity bike ride. Sponsored by good hearted individuals and companies across the nations, the cycle ride raises finances to rebuild and restore the hospital.

The recent episodes have, therefore, saddened the Trustees, committee members and all those involved in upholding this challenging task.

The charity are pleased to announce that Dr George Mather, a Dental Surgeon from the U.K. has also joined the Trustee Board of FoMH. Having carried out several clinics at the Green Memorial Hospital providing dental care free of charge, Dr Mather is a welcome addition to the Board.

With the resolution of the matter, the charity will now continue its single minded pursuit to transform GMH into a state of the art medical facility, providing low cost healthcare, facilities, and training for the Sri Lankan people. A huge undertaking indeed, but a dream that is now taking shape.
