The Annual Installation of new office-bearers of the Leo Club of Royal College Colombo was held recently at the College Main Hall under the patronage of Past International President of Lions Clubs International Mahendra Amarasuriya an old boy of Royal College.
Addressing the gathering of Students, Parents and Old boy’s outgoing President Yoshell Marasinghe said that during his tenure as President the Leo Club of Royal College provided assistance for more than 4000 families to improve their living conditions.
According to Marasinghe career guidance seminars, environmental protection activities, educational assistance for deserving children and feeding the hunger campaign to provide nutrition meals for deserving people are some of the activities carried out by the Leos.
During the ceremony Lion Mahendra Amarasuriya donated reading books for the use of students to the Royal College Library which is worth over one million rupees. Head Prefect of Royal College Kaveesha Ratnayaka accepted the donation on behalf of the College.
Amarasuriya highlighted the importance of every child to improve the reading habit and how it’s important to produce a quality person. The objective of the Leo Club program is to provide experience and dedicated practical leaders who can face any day to day challenges he requested the Leos of Royal College to get the maximum from this internationally recognised program and be quality leaders.
International Leo Club Program Advisory Pannelist Lasantha Goonewardena highlighted the many opportunities such as international youth exchange, cultural exchange, leadership training and international convention participation available for Leo Club members.
He said that last year the Deputy Head Prefect of Royal College Leo Binuja Amaranayaka got the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka during the international convention in Montreal and had the international exposure where over 150 nations participated.
