Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe met the president of the Asian Rugby Federation Qais Al Dalai on Thursday (6) at the Rugby Asia office in the United Arab Emirates to discuss matters related to the suspension of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR).

The discussion mainly focused on finding solutions to the existing problems related to the Sri Lanka Rugby, where the Minister requested the head of the Asian Rugby Federation to give an opportunity to the Sri Lanka to participate in the Asian tournaments.

The president of the Asian Rugby Union promised the Minister that the matters discussed will be presented in an upcoming executive committee meeting and a positive answer will be given.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka will once again be allowed to enter the field for the second and third stages of the upcoming Asian Sevens.

Matters related to obtaining the necessary technical knowledge and international training for Sri Lankan players were also discussed.

The Minister’s request to further promote women’s rugby as well as school rugby in Sri Lanka received a good response and discussions were held to implement a suitable program in the future.
