
Marathon runners failed to better the Sri Lanka records at the Nestomalt 47th National Games held in Gampaha yesterday.
M. Perera of the Western Province won the women’s race in two hours 49 minutes and 14 seconds with an emphatic lead from the second placed runner while HM Herath of the Central Province finished second in a time of two hours, 54 minutes and 11 seconds.
W. Ratnapala from Eastern Province won the men’s marathon race in a time of two hours, 25 minutes, 49 seconds but his lead was quite narrow. RA Arunasiri from North Central Province finished second in a time of two hours, 26 minutes and eight seconds.
