Nilfer Ibrahim to coach Police

18 September, 2022

Former Kingswood College, Kandy SC, Navy SC and Sri Lanka player Nilfer Ibrahim will take over as head coach of Police Sports Club in the forthcoming 2022/23 inter-club season.

Ibrahim has vast experience in coaching schools, clubs and the Sri Lanka national sides, had coaching stints with Trinity College, Isipathana College and St. Joseph’s College.

He was the head coach of St. Joseph’s when they won the inter school knock-out title in 2017 beating Isipathana.

He had previously coached club teams Hambantota Sharks, Navy Sports Club, Army Sports Club, CR and FC and CH and FC in the ‘A’ Division inter-club league rugby and knock out championships.

Ibrahim also had the honour of coaching the Sri Lanka under 20 team as well as Sri Lanka Sevens teams bringing them to the top three teams in Asia where Sri Lanka ended third.

“Police has a very good young side with several talented players who played under me when I was their head coach (at school).

“This makes my task much easier as most of them know me as well as my style of playing rugby. I am starting my coaching stint with Police after the completion of the inter-schools rugby season and will try my level best to bring back the glory days to Police rugby” said Ibrahim.
