Sri Lanka fast bowling coach Dharshana Gamage said the preparations gained ahead of the Asia Cup by playing in the SLC T20 League has put both him and the players in right frame of mind.
Gamage was also the fast bowling coach of the Reds team that won the SLC T20 Invitational title.
“We came here well prepared as a team and our aim is to take it match by match,” said Gamage the former Sri Lanka fast bowler who took over the role from Chaminda Vaas.
Gamage said most of the players in the Reds team are part and parcel of the Sri Lanka team that moves into the Asia Cup with the right momentum.
“As the fast bowling coach I had a good understanding about my fast bowlers. We defeated Bangladesh in the Test series 1-0 with Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha doing a tremendous job.
“Unfortunately we lost the services of experience bowlers like Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando and Kasun Rajitha at the last moment due to injuries.
“But the youngsters Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana and Promod Madushan are in good form to challenge our opponents,” said Gamage.
He said he was looking forward to the young players delivering as T20 cricket demands more than a hundred percent in fitness especially in fielding.
