Maize farmers to receive urea via online

Commissioner General of Agrarian Services A.H.L.M. Abeyratne said that all maize growers countrywide are now being registered with the Department of Agrarian Services via online for them to qualify to get urea fertiliser uninterruptedly henceforth. The required details over this matter can be obtained from the website of www.agrarian.lk. Nearly 60,000 hectares of lands are to be cultivated during the Maha season in Hambantota, Moneragala, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Districts this year, Commissioner General Abeyratne told the Sunday Observer.

He said farmers are to be provided with a 50 kilogram bag of urea at Rs. 10,000.

Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting of Organic Manufacturers, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the Ministry has made arrangements to provide Rs. 16,000 million subsidies to paddy farmers to purchase organic fertiliser during the Maha season this year.
