Police Headquarters has directed police officers countrywide to launch raids to seize fuel stocks hoarded by racketeers who sell fuel at higher prices to consumers. Many suspects were taken in for questioning while selling fuel at exorbitant rates.
Nearly 1,077 raids were conducted by the police from April 11 to July 20 .
About 33,847 litres of petrol, 109,634 litres of diesel and 19,214 litres of kerosene were seized during the raids, Kurunegala SSP R.A. Ranasinghe told the Sunday Observer. Over 995 suspects were taken in for questioning along with the hoarded fuel.
