Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at the Parliament premises on Thursday (July 21). Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, First Lady Prof. Maithrie Wickremesinghe and many Ministers and Members of Parliament were present. A secret ballot was held on Wednesday (July 20) to elect a President to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Wickremesinghe was elected as the President having received 134 votes.
