Traditional Fishing

Many fishermen on the East Coast have taken to more traditional forms of fishing that do not need fuel due to the acute lack of diesel preventing them from going out to the deep sea in multi-day trawlers and outboard motor-powered boats. Our staff photographer Tilak Perera captured this photograph of fishermen on a simple paaruwa near the Kalladi Bridge in Batticaloa casting a net on a bright sunny morning last week.
