
Luca Knese of German origin overcame a gutty display put up by Guyanga Weerasekera to win in straight sets 6/2, 6/3 in a men’s singles quarter-final game at the SLTA clay courts at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha yesterday.
In another quarter-final Yasitha de Silva beat Vibuda Wijebandara in straight sets in the evening.
These games were played at the famous Colombo Championships, the oldest tennis tournament in Sri Lanka that got underway on June 4. The tournament has attracted a record number of participants that include the cream of tennis.
Events conducted are for junior boys and girls singles under-12 singles and doubles in under-14, 16 and 18, men, women, mixed doubles and veterans over-35, 45, 55 and 65.
