The girl by the hillside

5 June, 2022

I was taking a stroll at the hillside. I approached the field of Infinite Berries. It was called this by the people living there. I saw a girl.aShe was holding a basket full of berries. Her dress had a peach lining at the edge and was pink.

A ribbon tied her hair upwards and the rest of her hair flew in the direction of the wind. She sat there under the mango tree that grew just few yards away from the berry field. Her mouth was full of berries and the juice had spread across her face. Oh, this made my mouth water.

I wondered how scrumptious it would be to eat some berries. I was going home. On my way I went to my friend’s house. I told her about the girl I saw. She said no one knows much about her because she never talks much either. I thought she seemed to be a pretty and exciting child. In the morning the hill tops were covered with the mist. Fresh fruits turned into delicious ones.

The water trickled down the smooth, gentle petals of roses and orchids. The raindrops fell one by one and it started to drizzle. Yet, even with the peaceful environment, my mind was not settled; I kept thinking about that girl and then I set out to meet her. As I stepped out of the house I opened the umbrella and held it above my head. The day may have looked dull, but the surroundings looked as if a person had dipped a paint brush into different colours and spread it all over.

I walked to the berry fields but there was no sign of the girl. Days, weeks, and after that probably months, I didn’t see the girl. I wondered about her and it looked as if she had disappeared with the wind.
